Kim's 'Interview a Guru' Series: Katherine from Something Blue Photography

Katherine from Something Blue Photography is one of those beautiful souls who you meet, and just want to be mates with!

Katherine is not only incredibly lovely, but she is an amazing photographer and she genuinely cares about our earth and the world around her.

Here's my interview with this beauty:

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Always Laughing AtMyself

What lights you up?

Light and colours….right now it’s the glorious autumn sun in the afternoons and the beautiful autumn leaves.

Ok, now I really want to go out and take photos!

You're a legend in your field 🙌 What do you think sets you apart?

I could talk about my years of experience with weddings and other fields of photography but really, I think what makes my photography different is empathy. I seriously think I feel every single emotion that my subjects feel…those nerves before the wedding ceremony and the overwhelming love as you’re exchanging vows. Empathy allows me to adapt to the couples and help make their wedding day exactly what they want it to be while still getting amazing photos.

What's your best advice for couples planning their wedding?

Plan your time wisely, your wedding day will fly by and everyone is going to want a piece of you. I always suggest to my couples that they should take a few minutes to themselves at some point between the ceremony and the reception. We often do this during the location photo part of the day. I’ll find a nice shady spot for them to sit with a drink and will just hang back and take some cute and candid photos. A few minutes of uninterrupted time with the love of your life on the most important day of your relationship is magical.

Your fav quote or motto?

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

Anything extra you'd like to share?

Well…since I couldn’t stick to three words when asked to describe myself, here’s a little more… For me, life is so much more when we don’t take it and ourselves too seriously. So I am usually the first to laugh at myself (and I get plenty of opportunities). This is a great motto to remember on your wedding day. Even if a few things don’t go 100% to plan, it can still be absolutely perfect.
