What is the difference between a traditional -v- modern celebrant?

So you're planning your wedding and you're on the search for civil celebrant...

About 8 years ago when I was in wedding planning mode, you either had a church wedding, or you hired a civil celebrant if you weren't religious.

A traditional celebrant was typically very conservative, dressed in formal wear, and quite serious in tone and delivery. A standard template ceremony was provided and you could choose from different verses, reading options and vow suggestions.

But in the last few years, a whole new generation of celebrants has risen! Celebrants who didn't want to read the same ceremony over and over again. Celebrants who wanted to work with couples to create a fresh ceremony just for them, while still meeting the legal requirements. Celebrants who had vibrance, personality and character who wanted to bring that colour and vibe to start your wedding day with immediate engagement and interaction.

So in a nutshell, a traditional celebrant is generally more conservative and formal, while I modern celebrant is generally more relaxed, unique and extraverted!

This is obviously a very general guide, as every celebrant is different - but this is my view of the world :)
